Ethanol Vehicles Fuel Mileage Offers Higher Fuel Efficiency

There has been a lot of debate about Ethanol vehicles fuel mileage. The number of people using ethanol blended fuel in their engines has been rising sharply.

Ethanol is generally mixed with gasoline or used separately as a fuel in various types of combustion engines. This ethanol is derived from plants. Vehicles such as trucks, cars, boats and lawnmowers use it as a fuel. Amongst the various advantages which ethanol offers as a fuel, the major one is that it minimizes pollutant emission from the vehicle and it is also a renewable source of fuel energy.

Ethanol engine offers much higher mileage than its other counterparts and we will discuss the major factors behind it in details in this article.

Generally ethanol is made out of potatoes, sugarcane and corn. On getting to know the process by which ethanol is prepared, we will come to know that it is produced with the help of a distillation process based on fermentation.

As ethanol does not emit toxic fumes, it is also used in closed rooms for burning lanterns. Ethanol has a higher octane rating than gasoline and it does not produce toxic substances in any form unlike gasoline, which produces the deadly carbon mono oxide which is very harmful. Ethanol provides a very clean burning to its users.

Ethanol engines are able to give better fuel economy and higher output as they have a higher compression ratios then compared to others having a low compression ratio. The consumption of ethanol is about 34% more than that of gasoline. The finely used ethanol operated engines gives improved torque and power. Even if we consider cost of ethanol engines and its other counterparts, we will find it to be more cost effective. The E10 and the E85 are the most commonly used ethanol types. While the E10 ethanol consists of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline, the E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and only 15% gasoline. E85 has a lower mileage than the gasoline and needs to be refueled more frequently. However, the actual vehicle performance also depends upon the type of the vehicle. The E85 ethanol is very cheaply priced compared to the E10 ethanol. It is also most friendly for the environment as it burns smoothly and does not emit many harmful gases.

As ethanol vehicles gives higher mileage and increase fuel efficiency while doing less harm to the environment by reducing harmful emissions, they are becoming more and more popular amongst fuel consumers. The dwindling oil resources also boost the need for adopting ethanol as an alternative fuel thus making it most acceptable form of backup fuel.
